From Sunday 25 October Croatia is on winter time. The sun rises earlier and sets earlier, so it gets dark in the afternoon.

Electricity: if you have a two-tariff meter, the higher tariff now applies from 7:00 to 21:00 and the lower tariff from 21:00 to 7:00 (HEP and the State Metrology Institute).

Tip: run the washing machine and dishwasher after 21:00, if your meter has two tariffs. Ask your landlord whether your flat has one.

Driving: dipped headlights or daytime lights are compulsory in the daytime from 1 November to 31 March. It is no longer tied to the clock change itself. Mopeds and motorcycles must use dipped lights all year.

If you cycle or walk to work in the dark, wear something reflective. Mornings will be lighter, afternoons darker.

What to do: 1) Check your meter or ask the landlord about tariffs. 2) Switch on your lights from 1 November. 3) Plan winter costs with our heating cost guide. Do you have a two-tariff meter? Tell us in the comments.
