Still paying account fees? Ask about Croatia’s free salary-account package

Eligible regular-income accounts can request specified free services under rules effective since January 2026. Extra products and Nepal transfers still need their own cost check.

Monthly bank charges are easy to overlook because each deduction can look small. If regular income arrives in your Croatian euro account, it is worth asking the bank about the paket besplatnih usluga—the defined free-services package available on request since January 1, 2026. [1]

The arrangement applies to one eligible regular-income account, and an existing IBAN can remain. The Ministry’s guidance covers opening, maintenance and closure, a bank-selected internet or mobile banking channel, specified cash services, incoming euro payments and ordinary debit-card services. It does not promise that every banking product or transaction becomes free. [1][2]

Check what is already attached to your account. HPB explains that paid additional services may coexist with the package. A useful branch question is therefore: which charges would stop, which would remain, and would I keep the digital channel I use? Ask for that answer with the fee document. [3]

There is also a date to keep straight. The national entitlement to two free monthly withdrawals at other Croatian banks’ ATMs begins on January 1, 2027. It is not a benefit to assume in October 2026. [4]

This regular-income package differs from the statutory basic account. Confirm eligibility and what happens if salary payments stop. Then price a Nepal transfer separately: an account package covering everyday services does not establish a free international remittance.
