The government set new maximum retail fuel prices on Monday, valid for seven days from Tuesday, 20 October. Petrol falls one cent to €1.73 a litre. Diesel rises four cents to €1.87. Blue diesel, used by farmers and fishers, rises five cents to €1.43.[1][2][3]

Gas also costs more: bottled gas (UNP za boce) rises nine cents to €2.34 a kilo, and gas for large tanks rises nine cents to €1.76 a kilo.[1][2] These are maximum prices, so a station cannot charge more, but it may charge less.

What it means for you: a 50-litre tank of diesel costs about €2 more than last week, and a 50-litre tank of petrol about 50 cents less.[3] A 10 kg gas bottle at the maximum price costs €23.40, which is €0.90 more than last week.

The government sets prices like this every week, usually announcing them on Monday for the following seven days.[1][4] It limits traders' margins and adjusts excise duty: this week the excise on diesel was cut by one cent, while the margin and excise on petrol were raised by one cent.[1]

What to do: if you drive to work, fill up on Monday evening only if the price you see is the old one, because the new cap starts Tuesday. Keep your receipts, and check the price per litre against the cap. If you cook or heat with a gas bottle, compare the receipt with €2.34 a kilo.
