Split’s hospital ambition is still a plan: what the September announcement says

The government says a location is being sought for a new KBC Split. Transport construction is also advancing, but a project announcement does not change today’s patient arrangements.

A new hospital is the kind of announcement residents naturally connect with appointments, waiting and travelling for treatment. At the Split-Dalmatia county event on September 30, the government said discussions about a new KBC Split had taken place and a suitable location was being sought. [1]

That leaves important project questions open. The statement gives no verified bed capacity or opening date and does not identify a final location. It is useful evidence of the government’s intention, but not an announcement that patients can book at a new facility.

The same statement highlights the Kozjak tunnel breakthrough and progress on the Mravince–Stobreč–Dubci–Omiš road project, alongside other infrastructure investment. A tunnel breakthrough marks construction progress; it does not by itself mean the road is open. [1]

For treatment now, the relevant starting point remains your HZZO status and the existing care pathway. HZZO includes legally employed third-country temporary residents under its stated conditions, and ordinary specialist or hospital access generally works through contracted care and referrals. [2][3]

Coverage also does not mean every bill is zero. HZZO publishes patient-participation rules, with exemptions and supplementary insurance affecting what an individual pays. Our health-insurance guide explains those amounts. [4] The new hospital story is therefore worth following for the region’s future, while current treatment decisions still rely on the services already operating.
