For many people in hotels, restaurants, cleaning and delivery, Sunday is a normal working day. This Sunday, October 11, the 34th Zagreb Marathon starts and finishes on Ban Jelačić Square, and ZET says trams will run on changed routes from 7:30 until 15:00. Only lines 9 and 15 keep their usual routes. Line 13 does not run until the race is over.
The other lines are shortened or sent around the centre, mostly via the Main Railway Station (Glavni kolodvor), Savska and Vodnikova. For example, line 2 runs Zapadni kolodvor – Glavni kolodvor – Savišće, line 6 Zapadni kolodvor – Sopot, line 12 Ljubljanica – Heinzelova and line 14 Trg žrtava fašizma – Zapruđe. ZET's notice gives the full temporary route of lines 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, 14 and 17. Between Dubrava and Dubec trams keep running and turn at the Dubrava depot.
Three temporary bus lines cover some gaps: Dubrava – Borongaj (8:00 to 14:30, no stops along the way), Črnomerec – Magazinska (8:15 to 14:30) and Kaptol – Mihaljevac (10:00 to 14:30). Bus lines 106, 139, 141, 146, 148, 201, 202, 203, 204, 207, 226, 227 and 228 also change for part of the day. Line 148, for example, does not run from 8:30 to 14:30, and line 106 does not run from 8:30 to 10:30.
Roads close in stages. According to City of Zagreb information published by Večernji list, Ban Jelačić Square closes to traffic at 7:30 and the whole race route at 8:30. Sections north and east of the centre are planned to reopen at around 10:00 and 10:40, but the long section through the centre and Ilica only at around 15:00. This matters too if you drive for work or deliver by bike or scooter.
What to do: on Saturday evening, find your line number in the ZET notice. If your route crosses the centre, leave earlier than usual. If your shift ends before 15:00, check the trip home as well, not only the morning journey. ZET service information is also available by phone on 072 500 400. All times here are local Croatian time.
