Lost a job in Croatia? HZZ can answer more than one question

Losing a job abroad can put several worries on the same day’s list: the next rent payment, the next employer and the residence permit. Croatia’s employment service HZZ has different procedures for different parts of that problem. Registration as unemployed does not automatically settle benefit entitlement or permission to start another job. [1][2][3]
HZZ’s guidance describes registration for third-country nationals whose Croatian employment has ended and who hold approved temporary residence. For an in-person visit, its list covers identity, residence or address, education and OIB information. Short-stay visitors are in a different position. [2]
A benefit application also considers earlier work, how employment ended and when registration and the claim are made. Termination evidence, gross-pay records and bank details can therefore matter. Keep the contract, termination letter and payslips even when an agent originally arranged the job. [3]
The value of keeping an independent record is illustrated by an earlier published account. AFP reporting carried by N1/Hina on March 27, 2024 described Nepalese migrant Durga Phuyal paying €7,000 in recruitment, travel and document costs, then losing her job a month after arrival and receiving no agency help. That is one reported experience, not a measure of what every agency or worker faces. [5]
